On August 4, 2021, Governor J.B. Pritzker issued an Executive Order mandating masks be worn in all Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12 public and nonpublic schools effective immediately. The Executive Order requires the indoor use of face coverings by students, staff and visitors who are over the age of two and able to medically tolerate a face covering, regardless of vaccination status. The District must follow the Executive Order. Beginning Friday, August 20th, 2021, Cornell Grade School will require all staff, students and visitors to wear masks while indoors at school and also at all times while in school transportation vehicles.

To Parents and Students of Cornell Grade School,
Welcome to the physical education program. My name is Ms. Johnson, your student’s physical education teacher. I believe that physical education is an important and essential aspect of the total school curriculum, and necessary for the development of a person’s well-being. The purpose of this letter is to provide information on policies, requirements, etc. to parents and students.
Please read and discuss this information with your child. If you have any concerns, feel free to contact me. My email is hjohnson@cornellgradeschool.org. I look forward to working with your child this year, as we continue our efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle for all!
PE Class Dressing:
In order to fully participate in selected activities, each student MUST bring to school starting Wed. August 18 and have in place by Mon. August 23 the following items:
1- school appropriate t-shirt
1- pair of shorts
1- pair of athletic sneakers with socks
deodorant stick
Write the students name on the tag of each item
We recommend inexpensive clothes, as they may become soiled and/or torn as a result of class activity. The following are NOT permitted: t-shirts with inappropriate ads/language; midriff shirts and tank top; cut-offs, low riding shorts and/or denim shorts. Each student is responsible to return personal clothing items home on Friday for washing – and bring back to class on the following Monday.
In the weeks ahead, Cornell Grade School shirt and shorts will be available for purchase. Please complete the bottom portion of this letter with your student’s size information.
Locker Room Facilities/Lockers:
The boys/girls locker rooms are available to all students who bring a change of clothes each day. Restrooms, dressing stalls and showers are also available for student’s use. He/she may bring the following personal hygiene items to use after the daily activities: deodorant, lotion and/or cologne, soap, towels, and/or other items for personal grooming. Students MUST redress into their clothes before leaving physical education class.
Injury/Medical Excuses:
Students MUST report all injuries which occur during the class activity to his/her teacher IMMEDIATELY
If a student is unable to participate due to an injury, illness, etc. he /she will be excused for the day provided a note from a doctor is turned in to the teacher.
An alternate assignment will be given in order for the student to receive credit for the missed activity.

Chalk The Walk and Open House scheduled for this evening has been cancelled. Students will bring their supplies to school tomorrow. Students can bring their materials to school over multiple days if they have too much to carry.

Cornell Grade School has an opening for a Head Cook. Responsibilities include: Ordering, preparing, and serving breakfast and lunch; following state and federal guidelines, completing necessary reports, forms and documentation, monitoring health and safety guidelines and obtaining Food Safety Manager Certification. Let's Chalk The Walk! Help Spread Joy, Optimism And Inspiration To Welcome Our Students Back To School Through The Power Of Sidewalk Chalk. Make People Smile. Join Us On August 17th From 4:30-5:30PM. Draw Or Write Encouraging And Positive Messages On The Sidewalk in Front of The School With Chalk. We Also Invite You To Chalk Your Walk At Home. Families Are Then Able To Look At The Inspirational Messages Written By Their Neighbors. The School will have chalk available for students and their parents to create a picture or message on the sidewalk. Kindergarten-6th Grade Open House will be held from 5:30-6:30. 7th and 8th grade students are not required to attend open house, but may drop off materials if they would rather not carry them to school the next day.
The Cornell Board of Education Finance Committee is scheduled to meet at 6:00PM on 8/11/21.
2021 Fall Preschool Screening
Reminder: We will be holding registration on August 4th from 10-12 AM and August 5th from 4-6 PM.
We will be asking parents to complete a NEWLY revised registration packet to gather a little more information for the start of the year. If you are unable to attend registration, we can make arrangements to send the packet home with your child when school starts. Thank you for your understanding.
The CCSD #426 Board of Education will hold a Special Board Meeting on August 4th at 6:00PM at Cornell Grade School. Visitors who wish to speak at the board meeting should arrive at 5:45PM to sign up to speak.
Summer school starts on August 2nd. Kindergarten students in group A will attend from 9-10:15 and kindergarten students in group B will attend from 10:30-11:45. 3rd and 4th grade students will attend from 9:00-11:00.
Research shows that face to face learning is more valuable than online learning. We do understand that some students may have health issues requiring access to remote learning. Please contact Cornell Grade School by August 6th if your child will need remote instruction for the 21-22 school year. A doctor's note will be required.
In addition, any medications given at school require doctor's authorization. This includes over the counter medications. Forms will be available at registration on August 4th and 5th.
Registration for new students and students who have not turned in their registration packets will be at school on August 4th from 10-12 AM and August 5th from 4-6 PM.
